Open space alternatives proposed |
Alternatives to the purchase of existing homes for recreation were proposed at a recent public meeting convened by Gosford Council to discuss the Peninsula Open Space Contributions Plan.
Land suggested included the council's Woy Woy depot site, the Woy Woy tip and Bulls Hill quarry site.
Other suggestions were land adjacent to the railway line on the way to the treatment works, the embellishment of foreshore reserves at Woy Woy and Ettalong and land adjacent to East's Ocean Beach Holiday Park.
Gosford mayor Cr Robert Bell said: "I was delighted when residents offered 29 suggestions for locations within the Peninsula where some recreation - both passive and active - could be undertaken.
"There are also 11 council blocks of land scattered throughout the Peninsula that are worth investigating for community use."
He said he was also delighted with the number of residents who took the time to listen to the council explain future recreation needs for the Peninsula at the meeting on December 9.
"Approximately 200 residents were advised there will be no further action for acquisition of their properties and council will look at other options," said Cr Bell.
Cr Bell said he was pleased Council staff took all suggestions on board and they will now prepare a report on the suggestions.
The Mayor has promised to write to residents and will include a list of all the community suggestions.
"The rapid population increases are caused by a large percentage of the Peninsula being zoned for medium density housing.
"In the last 15 years, there has been a 15 per cent increase in population.
"This has caused Council to give greater consideration to recreation services and facilities for existing and new residents," said Cr Bell.
