Money for flood studies |
The State Government has announced it will contribute one third of the cost of flood studies for the Peninsula and Pearl Beach.
Announcing the grants totalling $46,000, Member for Peats Ms Marie Andrews said: "The Commonwealth Government through its Natural Disaster Risk Management Studies Program, the NSW Government through its Floodplain Management Program and Gosford Council will each contribute one third of the cost of the projects:"
"Financial assistance of $30,000 has been provided to enable council to initiate the Woy Woy-Umina-Ettalong flood study and $16,000 for the Middle Creek floodplain management study in Pearl Beach," Ms Andrews said.
The flood studies will provide detailed knowledge of the extent of the flood hazard in the catchments, while the floodplain management studies will identify appropriate floodplain management measures and assess their effectiveness in the catchments.
The Floodplain Management Program was a key component in the NSW Government's Flood Prone Land Policy managed by the Department of Laid and Water Conservation, she said.
The program aimed to provide appropriate levels of flood protection to existing and future development through structural and non-structural flood mitigation strategies.
