Cyclist supports grassy reserves

We must remain focused on what offers value for the community.

What does the whole community seek most?

If our elected representatives are there to serve the community, then we have to communicate our views, otherwise Council cannot properly represent us.

It is unfortunate that one elderly gentleman is preoccupied with waterfront residents instead of grasping the real concerns about the impact of a shared concrete cycleway path on our waterfront reserves at Woy Woy and Ettalong Lance Webb Reserves.

Before my husband became ill, we enjoyed cycling around the Peninsula for exercise.

Later we could not cycle and resorted to quiet strolls. In fact, the last photograph I have with my husband before he died is on the Woy Woy Waterfront Reserve.

That photo is peaceful and contented because our stroll was just that.

No speeding is possible on the grassy reserve.

The wildlife adds to the beauty of the trees and gently lapping water against the shores.

I am so grateful that the reserve exists as it is.

I am disappointed that the odd letter writer fails to grasp issues that are important to the community, of which I am a part. I do not live on the waterfront nor do I envy those that do.

But I do value the waterfront reserves as they are. I am glad that some people in the community irrespective of where a few of them live, are fighting for what I think is important.

Having been a cyclist and a resident in the area since 1967, I really think that both reserves, particularly the one at Woy Woy, should not be concreted.

Thank you to the committee fighting against the proposed cycleway on the reserves.
