Rate rise discriminatory
Once again, we find our ever-progressing mayor putting another tax to meet his new brain child, 45 cents per week to restore or build our life saving clubs.
This relates to around $22 a year, not a great deal to the average person, but tell that to the pensioner on the Peninsula, of whom we have around 60%.
They are trying to keep their bank balance above $500 to wade off the extra bank charges, which are added if their balance should drop below that amount.
I personally do not knock the life saving clubs, as I received my Bronze Medalion in 1937 with the Bondi Surf Club.
Another sore point to me is each year when we receive our first rate notice, there is a full glossy reminder that if we pay our rates in full up front we can win a trip to a magic tropical island.
How humorous to think us pensioners could come up with around $1000 to get a raffle ticket.
This is the most discriminating and embarrassing piece of garbage any council could come up with, except for the cost of a postage stamp each week.
