Community members join committee

Brisbane Water Secondary College (BWSC) Woy Woy campus skills centre committee has had four members of the community join them.

Each one works in and has experience in several aspects relating to the skills centre.

Mark Snell is a local business man who owns his own computer programming business, an active member of the community, and the driving force behind the local newspaper Peninsula News.

David Abrahams is a co-owner of the IT business Connect IT and an active member of Connect Central Coast, a representative group for the local IT industry.

Barry McKnight is the head of the Central Coast Campus at Ourimbah and has extensive experience in the establishment of a state of the art tertiary educational institution which serves both the TAFE and the university sector.

Maggie McFie works with Central Coast Youth Connections, a regional organisation which assists schools to find work placements for students for the industry experience components of senior vocational education and training courses.

This organisation also helps students make the transition from school to work.

Over the last month, the committee has been working on a business plan for the centre.

One decision was to change to name the centre Technology Futures to aptly describe its purpose: It is a state of the art IT centre and is preparing students and other members of the community for their future.

There will be very strict rules in place for the use of the centre because it is essential that it is kept clean and free of any rubbish.
