Federal Budget confirms aquatic centre funding
Member for Robertson Mr Jim Lloyd has welcomed the Federal Budget announcement confirming $1.5 million towards the Peninsula Regional Recreational Facility.
"This delivers on a commitment which I made to Peninsula residents in the lead-up to the last Federal election.
"Despite unexpected pressure on the Federal Budget from international events and the increased focus on defence and border protection issues, I am pleased that the Howard Government has delivered on this important election commitment," Mr Lloyd said.
This $16 million project will include a 50m pool, a 25m laps pool, a fitness centre, a competition court for basketball, netball, indoor cricket and other sporting groups, a multi-purpose area for aerobics, martial arts, and community group meetings, and a crèche to provide child minding.
"The reason this project has been selected for Government support is that it will be of immense value to the whole Peninsula community, with a particular emphasis on providing a social benefit to the young people of the Peninsula," said Mr Lloyd.
"As a former president of Central Coast Junior Hockey, I realise how important sporting activities are to the young people of the Central Coast.
"If we want to keep our young generation active, healthy and occupied we must ensure that they have the facilities required to undertake these activities," Mr Lloyd said.
