Unit plan rejected

Gosford Council has rejected a plan for two units at 19 Kourung St, Ettalong Beach, on the grounds that the block was too small for the structure and the drainage plan was inadequate.

Speaking at a recent meeting, Cr Lynne Bockholt said: "This is a disgraceful development.

"The design is terrible and the block is too small.

"You can't do things this way.

"You have to stick to the standards we have set.

"We should refuse this application outright and let the developer know how we feel.

"It's up to this council to say 'That's the standard, no more giving in'."

The question of having to defend refusal of development applications in the Land and Environment Court was then raised.

Cr Tony Sansom said: "I think we should get a report back as to how much of the ratepayer's money we are spending in relation to the Land and Environment Court."

Cr Daniel Cook suggested that legal advice be sought regarding how the council might be able to stop this type of development.

All councillors voted in favour of refusing the development except Crs Tony Sansom, Daniel Cook and Debra Wales, who voted against refusal.

Cr Malcolm Brooks did not vote as he was absent on leave.
