Skydive for cancer research
A 63-year-old local man is planning to take a skydive to raise money for cancer research.
Bill Ide, manager of Peninsula Pine and Ply, will jump out of an aeroplane over Gloucester NSW at a height of 14,000 feet on June 9.
Mr Ide said: "An Australian doctor has had success recently in finding a cancer gene in a baby.
"Once he located it, he sucked the gene out and believes that the child can go through life without ever contracting a certain type of cancer."
Mr Ide is now attempting to raise money for research into finding a cure for breast cancer and cancer in children.
There are collection buckets for donations at Campbells Building Materials and Peninsula Pine and Ply.
Also jumping with Mr Ide will be Campbells' employee Liam Coleman, Woy Woy father Mark Bloor and his two children Leon and Kate.
The jump has been organised through the Cancer Council "Leap for Life" project.
The Cancer Council invitation for the jumpers comes with a warning: "People who chicken out are expected to do the piker's pledge and shave their head."
