Folk music on the weekend

 

A second annual folk music gathering will be held at Woy Woy and Patonga on the weekend of November 8 and 9.

The event will start at 8pm on Friday night at the Woy Woy CWA Hall, opposite Fisherman's Wharf, where the Troubadour Folk Club will present four hours of musical entertainment with a concert style performance.

Featured on the night will be guest artist Chris Fraser who will be supported by local and out-of-town musicians.

Two simultaneous concerts and a series of workshops will be held at Patonga on the Saturday, November 9, between 10am and 7pm..

The main concert will be held at the Patonga Progress Hall and will feature such folk and alternative musicians as the Wheeze and Suck Band; Us Not Them; John Dengate, Duncan Chalmers; Jo Henwood; Bill Bekric; Wayward Folk; Dulce Melos; Urban Excentrics; Graeme Johnson; Touchwood; Linda Campbell; Secret Party and the Read Heads.

Alongside the hall, a children's concert will be held at 10am, followed by a blackboard concert from 11am for the rest of the day.

Meanwhile, upstairs at the Bakehouse Gallery, a series of workshops will be held from 10am until 5pm.

Topics will include singing, tin whistle, busking, guitar, music collection, bodhran, and Irish music.

Participants are encouraged to bring their instruments and voices to workshops to be able to actively participate.

The finale for the day will be a bush dance at the hall from 8pm with music by a combination of four bands and two callers, featuring Galimore, Wheeze and Suck, Dulce More and Us Not Them.

A weekend ticket including the Friday evening, both concerts, workshop and bush dance will cost $20.
