College officially a 'kool skool'
Brisbane Water Secondary College, Woy Woy campus music students have won the "NSW Kool Skools" competition.
Students made a music CD, which was submitted to an awards night similar to a Music Aria awards night.
This night was held on Monday, October 7.
Attending the night were 14 parents, 32 students, and music teacher Kris Faulkner.
Laura Baker, Noexit and Fyna were selected from the school to perform.
The school was nominated for 13 out of 17 awards.
"We were nominated for so many awards that our voices were sore from screaming out when they kept calling our school name," Kris said.
The school had won seven awards.
"This is a huge achievement by our music students and I hope they are pretty chuffed with their efforts.
"It's great to win awards for your music performances, but even greater when you hear that these young adults are the song writers as well as the performers," Kris said.
The awards won were:
Best CD cover: Dave Jenkins and Laura Bilker (CD booklet).
Best Male Vocalist: Alex Bennison.
Best Rock-Alternative Song: Fyna (Alex Bennison, Tim John, David Jenkins).
Best Rock-Alternative Band: Noexit (Alex Bennison, Tim John, Michael Roberts and Leon Harrison).
Best Instrumentalist: Drummer David Jenkins.
Best Instrumentalist: Bass Tim John.
Best Instrumentalist: Guitar Alex Bennison.
Kris said: "I would like to thank all the wonderful students who attended in an effort to support our school and our musicians and also the absolutely fantastic parents who are very much needed to make these events possible.
"These parents were: Mrs Stahl, Mr and Mrs Sinderberry, Mr and Mrs Bennison, Mr and Mrs John, Mr and Mrs Baker, Mr and Mrs Jenkins, Mr and Mrs Somerville and Mr Roberts.
"Also I would love to thank Dave Roberts, the owner-driver of the big red double decker bus, who drove us to the venue at The Metro, George St. Sydney."
