Students to tour New York
Brisbane Water Secondary College Year 10 students, Lyndon Witchard and James Phelps, will represent the youth of Australia on a tour of New York State during June and July next year.
Both students from Woy Woy senior campus are members the school Student Representative Council (SRC) and the Central Coast District SRC, where James holds an executive position.
The trip includes a three-week tour of New York State and a one-week stay in Hawaii.
During the tour of New York State, they will stay with a host family for a few days, as well as attending youth leadership councils, forums, conferences and intensive leadership camps.
They will also attend the 67th International Youth Leadership Conference to be held in Buffalo, New York.
In Hawaii, they will plan ways to implement the skills they have learned.
"We believe this trip will be a once in a lifetime opportunity," said James.
"It will greatly benefit, not only us, but our fellow student leaders.
"We will be able to pass on skills that we have acquired," James said.
The trip will cost a total of $13,000 for both students and they are currently raising funds towards the trip.
The students plan to seek sponsorship from the Parents' and Citizens' Association, as well as registered clubs and service clubs.
