Comedy festival to incorporate

 

Gosford Council's Spike Milligan Commemoration Committee has resolved to set up a non-profit community organisation, "The Spike Milligan Comedy Festival Inc".

At a meeting on Friday, October 18, the committee decided the objectives would be to be funny, give acknowledgment of Spike Milligan's art and life, lift community spirit through Spike Milligan's humour, foster creative talent of people of all ages in the area of comedy, and attract people to visit the Central Coast.

The commemoration committee was formed by Gosford Council following Spike's death in February "to investigate ways of celebrating the life and art of the world-renowned exponent of comedy", said Cr Chris Holstein.

The committee is comprised of Cr Holstein, Mr Desmond Milligan, a number of community representatives and council officers.

"An early task of the fledgling festival body will be to develop a business plan, with a view to presenting a community-based comedy festival in October of next year, to coincide with World Cup rugby matches to be played in Gosford," said Cr Holstein.
