Competition for Ocean Beach Surf Life Saving Club members has started.
Rowers have competed in the Peters Boat Series at Fingal Bay and the "oldies" of the club have competed at the Nutty Masters at Wamberal.
The results from Fingal Bay were: Under-19 Ocean Beach White: first, first and a third; Under-19 Ocean Beach Black: first, second and fourth; and Women third, third and fourth.
Nutty Masters results:
Kylie Stewart in 30-34 Women's was first in flags and third in the sprint.
Donna Hannell in 40-44 Women's was third in flags and fifth in the sprint.
Scott Riley in 35-39 Men's was fourth in the surf race.
Competition for the club members has recently been given a financial boost with the Woy Woy Leagues Club coming on as a sponsor.
The Leagues Club has contributed to the acquisition of another surfboat for the club.
With five crews competing, another boat was a welcome addition.
Richardson and Wrench Real Estate Agents in Umina have also contributed to the club in providing shirts to the five crews.
Ocean Beach SLSC is now into its 81st year and over those years has built up an important community-based club, said club president Dave Unger.
In its 80 years the club has not had a fatality on its beach while patrols have been in attendance.
The current patrolling season is now in full swing with members on the beach each Saturday and Sunday.
Members have had to do deal with a variety of sea conditions where the usual calm waters of Ocean Beach have been turned into turbulent waters.
One incident occurred at the conclusion of the first weekend of patrols.
Club members were enjoying their usual Sunday night get together when they were called upon to assist in the rescue of a yacht that had become stranded off Lobster Beach.
Dave Unger said that the way the rescue was carried out showed the commitment of the club.
Executive members of both the Ocean Beach Surf Club and Woy Woy Leagues Club were pictured at the christening of the new surf boat.
