Trash and treasure sale for ministries

Umina campus of Brisbane Water Secondary College is the venue a Trash and Treasure sale and fete on Saturday, November 2, from 8am.

There will be cake, craft and plant stalls, a car wash and Devonshire Teas.

The day will be run by local churches for the Religious Education Ministries (REM).

The Ministries employ one fulltime and two part-time high school teachers, Jeff Roffey, Adam Frost and Julie Tibbs, to teach religion at Brisbane Water Secondary College.

This work began at Umina High School in1989 with one teacher and expanded to Woy Woy High in 1995.

The teachers also take sport and music classes and help out where ever their talents lie.

They run lunch-time groups and take the students on excursions and camps.

Jeff Roffey has counselled students and parents during personal crises.

Funding for the work is raised by seven local churches, community groups like Rotary, sponsorship of local businesses and through fund-raising.

This year the budget is $100,000, as the employment of an extra teacher was necessitated through the formation of Brisbane Water Secondary College.

The garage sale and fete is the major fundraiser for this year for the Ministries.

Last year, $4500 was raised through the same event.
