Police meeting discusses Umina beachfront
Policing in hotspots, including the Umina beachfront and skate park, were discussed at the initial meeting of the local Police Accountability Community Team (PACT).
The meeting for Brisbane Water Local Area Command was held at Gosford Police Station on October 9.
The meeting chaired by Superintendent Alan Clarke was attended by Member for Peats Ms Marie Andrews, Member for Gosford Mr Chris Hartcher, Member for The Entrance Mr Grant McBride, Central Coast Health CEO Mr Jon Blackwell and Mr David Humphries and Ms Louise Duff representing business and the community.
Supt Clarke said a policing overview was provided for all present, which outlined crime hotspots, trends and other policing issues.
"The group noted the pleasing results currently being achieved in crime reduction.
"Year to date figures indicate that there has been a 25 per cent reduction in break and enters, 20 per cent reduction in robberies, 11 per cent reduction in stealing and a 39 per cent reduction in stolen cars," Superintendent Clarke said.
Policing deployment and strategy was also discussed.
The committee will meet again next February when it will develop an action plan to address some of the bigger issues that effect crime on the Central Coast.
"Transport, domestic violence, child protection and drug use are all areas which the team can focus on," said Supt Clarke.
"In the interim, the committee will look at ways to promote PACT and capitalise on the working relationships that have been formed.
"I believe PACT to be a great opportunity.
"At last, we can legitimately engage the community in our planning," he said.
