Police change is frantic flip flop, says Wales

Liberal Candidate for Peats, Cr Debra Wales, has described the State Government's change of heart about police at Woy Woy as "frantic flip-flop backtracking".

The change "demonstrates how desperate they are to try and hose down community concerns before it is too late", said Cr Wales.

"The Carr Government has continually ignored matters of public interest in Peats, but now they are like a candle in the wind because the winds of change are blowing strongly against them.

"Some clear examples of this include the fast ferry which was strongly opposed by the sitting Labor member.

"The Carr Government was forced to agree because of strong community support.

"Premier Carr and Police Minister Costa for years have ignored concerns raised by me and the community about the crime rate on the Peninsula and the need to return general duties police to Woy Woy police station.

"Now, suddenly, they change their tune and support the Liberal Party's policy.

"This raises two very important questions.

"Why does the Carr Government keep fighting the legitimate concerns of our community, and why have they suddenly changed their tune?"

"Are they trying to catch up to the Liberal Party, which has always placed community interest first or does it simply have something to do with the fact that there is an election next March."
