Councillor criticises 'slums' plan

Cr Lynne Bockholt has described a retirement village consisting of four units which is to be built at 166 Blackwall Rd, Woy Woy, as "the slums of the future".

At a recent council meeting, Cr Lynne Bockholt voted against approval of the development application.

She was out-voted and the development was approved.

"These are the slums of the future.

"I think they're dreadful," Cr Bockholt said.

"It's a design issue for me.

"I think they're a terrible design and they're not site-specific.

"There are design criteria for buildings three storeys and higher, but there's nothing for buildings lower than that.

"The low level buildings that we have so many of on the Peninsula should be subject to the same sort of rigourous design specifications that the taller buildings are," Cr Bockholt said.

The development will involve demolition of two houses which currently stand on the site.
