Support for bicycle week

Gosford City and Wyong Shire Councils are supporting Bicycle Week from September 21 to 29.

During the week, Peninsula Cycle Centre at Umina will provide free bicycle maintenance checks and install bells on bicycles which don't already have them.

A children's "spot the difference" competition has been developed with entries available from the bike shop, Gosford and Wyong Councils and local libraries.

Bookmarks have also been developed with a fun bike safety message and these will also be available from the above-mentioned outlets.

During the week, riders will be reminded of the need to wear an approved cycle helmet at all times and that all bicycles must be fitted with a warning device such as a bell or a horn.

Bicycles must also have lights and reflectors when in use at night.

Car drivers will be reminded that cyclists are vulnerable road users with limited protection from other vehicles.
