Phyllis helps hamper appeal
A Central Coast group raising money and making hampers for drought-stricken farmers has had 13 boxes donated by generous Umina resident Phyllis Watson.
"I saw that 100 hampers were needed so I decided to put some together," she said.
Ms Watson contacted family and friends who donated groceries, sweets, even dog food to put in the hampers.
She said that the response from her friends was tremendous.
One friend donated a box of soft toys.
Being brought up in Western NSW, Phyllis said she knew of the hardships of living in the bush.
"The farmers need all they help they can get," she said.
Andrea Flynn and Matt Barlin have been helping collect donations for the farmers.
Ms Flynn said that there had been a good response from people in the Peninsula area.
"A lot of people want to remain anonymous because they donate because it's the right thing to do, not for the recognition," she said.
"We've had lots of help from lots of different people in the area."
Ms Flynn said that a lot of people who donated were originally from the Tamworth and Gunnedah areas most severely affected by drought.
She said that, after reading about the appeal in the paper, many of these people made any donation they could as they had first hand experience of what the farmers were going through.
Hampers filled with groceries will go to farmers most desperately in need to ease their financial burden.
To make a donation, phone Matt Barlin on 4353 4587.
