Book on pioneers gets funding
A book which includes descriptions of Peninsula pioneers is among "local studies" projects that have received funding from Gosford Council.
Details of the role of James Webb and the Piper, Davis, Ward and Settree families in the early development of the Peninsula are described in the "Pre-1901 Gosford Pioneer Register".
The council presented grants totaling $8000 on Monday, September 16, to help finance local historical projects.
"These grants reflect the great need for local history research in our community," said mayor Cr Robert Bell.
"Work has been progressing for many years on these projects and it's important for the community to support people engaged in local history research.
"This grants scheme is designed to help researchers get their work published, something which may not always happen without additional council support.
"Gosford Council is a leader in this type of grant scheme."
Other projects to be funded this year include histories of Terrigal, of Mann St in Gosford, and of the Lisarow-Ourimbah CWA branch.
The Local Studies Assistance Grants Scheme was administered by local studies librarian Mr Geoff Potter.
Cr Bell said the council had increased its spending on library book purchases by $200,000 this year.
"By December, anyone will be able to reserve books on-line or see our book catalogues on-line.
"This is a great step forward."
