Some nice catches of bream and whiting are being reported in Paddy’s Channel, Brickwharf Rd Channel and Ettalong.

Most popular feeding time for these species would be the first three hours of the run up tide, the first two hours of the run out tide and the last two hours of the run out tide.

Most preferred baits being bloodworms, nippers and shelled prawns for whiting; pilchards, bottle squid and chicken gut for bream.

On the flathead scene, some very nice catches are being reported at Halftide Rocks, Ettalong and Paddy’s Channel.

Most favourable baits are brined pilchards, white bait, mullet strips and live poddy mullet.

Lure fishermen may have left their run a little too late on the flathead, as flathead become very shy this time of year and tend to prefer natural baits over lures.

Ocean report

Some very nice catches of snapper and morwong are being reported off Esmeralda, Boltons and The Valiant, better known as The Wreck.

Best baits are striped tuna, pilchards and prawns. Most preferred fishing times would be early mornings or late afternoons.

Striped tuna, bonito and king fish are also running off Copacobana, Winnie Bay and MacMaster’s Beach, one to three kilometres off shore.

Best baits are pilchards, spinning with Raider lures or half x quarters. Trolling with pink skirted squid and Christmas tree lures at one to three knots also proves to be rewarding.

Large catches of dolphin fish are being reported around Broken Bay, wide around fish traps. Preferred bait is cube pilchard unweighted, surface plugs and poppers.
