Booker Bay boundaries frozen
The Department of Land and Water Conservation (DLWC) has frozen up to a dozen Booker Bay boundary realignment applications threatening public access to beach areas.
The applications were made under an old law allowing changes in waterfront boundaries in accordance with naturally occurring changes in the environment.
For example, a build up of sand may change the shape of a beach and absolute waterfront property owners can make an application to change their boundaries in line with this natural change.
DLWC froze the applications because of community concerns about possible loss of public access to the foreshore.
Sue Ford, a Booker Bay resident who is leading the communitys campaign, said it was important that public access be maintained.
"People have been told to get off waterfront areas they assumed were public foreshore," she said.
"Something has to be done or we wont realise its gone until its too late."
Gosford Council will enter a submission stating their concerns to DLWC about the issue.
