Junior cricket season ends
Umina Junior Cricket Club celebrated the end of another strong season at their presentation day on May 2.
The club saw two of its teams, U12'S & U15'S, make it through to district finals, whilst the U16's reached the semis.
All other age groups enjoyed consistent performances throughout the summer.
The Club was also prominent in the Gosford District Six -A -Side Competition.
The Senior Umina side making the semi final level, whilst the Junior's defeated Woy Woy in a tense final to take out the Junior Trophy.
This victory set a precedent for the Junior competition. Previously Kincumber had been the only Club to win this event.
Outstanding individual efforts were highlighted through the Club's performance awards. The Senior Division (U/14's - U16's) being won by Nicholas Borrow-Jones, Most promising Junior (U13's - U12's) going to Ross Watson, and the John Turnell Encouragement Award to Ryan Clement.
The season also saw four nominations to the 'Mingara Sportsperson of the Month Award', with U/16 B bowler John Payne being awarded this prestigious title.
John was confirmed as the 'January Sportsperson of the Month' for his remarkable bowling figures against The Entrance in round 7.
John completed the match with figures of 9/25 in 16 overs with 5 maidens.
Junior Club President Alex Hurl feels these achievements stand the club in good stead for the future.
"Although Umina is not a large club, there is certainly a lot of talent through all the age groups."
