Sticking to a goal is tough. You start out motivated beyond belief, but as time goes by, you find yourself slipping. Here are just a few tips on how to keep that momentum going.
1. Get some art
Hanging motivational canvas art can be a daily reminder of your goal, and give you the stimulation you need to continue towards it. Whether it’s a quote from one of your heroes or something that simply says “Get out there”, motivational canvas art could be the visual element that sets your goals on fire.
2. Forgive yourself
It’s okay to have off days. No one is perfect. You will slip up. The road to your goals is not straight. Forgive yourself when you fail, then pick yourself up and get going again. Tell yourself a few kind words and realize it’s okay to have setbacks.
3. Get support
Tell your friends and family your goals. Join an online community with like-minded individuals. A good support system will help hold you accountable. If you know others are rooting for you and want to see your success, you’re more likely to achieve what you want.
4. Save your energy
You might think you’re doing yourself a service by multi-tasking, when you’re really just sapping your energy. Focus on one thing at a time, and you’ll find that you are able to accomplish a whole lot more.
5. Focus on the positive
It’s easy to see the negative in things. Find that silver lining. If you ate a whole cake and you’re supposed to be on a diet, don’t dwell on it. Think about your next workout and how you’re going to absolutely crush it. Missed a deadline? Keep working on that project to ensure it’s perfect before sending it in.
6. Create milestones
Saying you want to write a novel is a great goal. But you can’t just sit down and write it all in one go. There will be roadblocks and pitfalls. Create smaller goals that will get you to that large one. Write 1,000 words a day. Tracking your progress this way will give you more things to celebrate and keep you motivated.
7. Laugh out loud
Even if you feel like crying. Nothing does the body and spirit better than a good old fashioned belly laugh. Don’t take things too seriously. Sometimes all it takes is a laugh before you can move on.
